Employment Program
The Student Employment Program (SEP) is a multi-faceted initiative that supports the educational process by exposing students to the world of work. It is an essential component that reinforces the importance of education as a vehicle toward future employment success.
ACE enrolls all sophomores in employment training classes. These classes cover all aspects of employment preparation and success, including how to find a job, how to successfully interview for a job, and how to develop personal skills needed to succeed on the job. Through career exploration activities, the classes help students identify future careers. Added elements to this syllabus are a business speakers program, which brings professionals from a wide variety of occupations to the school to make presentations. As seniors, students participate in an internship class. Having previously engaged in career exploration activities, this program lays the foundation for students to obtain an internship and thereby further explore career interests.
Following the successful completion of the employment training classes, ACE places students in paying employment positions. These positions, which are located throughout Providence, include major corporations, hospitals, law and accounting firms, retail establishments, and not for profit agencies, and provide our students with access to employment opportunities that few, if any, would otherwise have. Once students are placed on the job or obtain an internship, our staff communicates regularly with the students and with their employers to ensure that all is going well on the job and to address any potential problems. Employers are kept apprised of the students’ academic performance. Students who do not perform well academically once they begin working could lose their job or internship. It is imperative to note that at TCCA, student performance is frequently evaluated. Students receive grades for their career awareness and senior internship classes. Student employment performance is similarly evaluated.
Students employed in ACE’s Student Employment Program earn one half (˝) credit for each six months of successful employment up to a total of one credit.
