Highlights of 2008

The Class of 2008 graduated 46 students.

Our graduation rate has consistently been between 93-95%, which is among the highest in the state for high schools. While official figures for the Class of 2008 will not be available until Spring, we expect the numbers to be comparable. According to the RI Department of Education, the ACE Class of 2007 placed sixth among 57 high schools.

ACE Celebrated Ten Years as a Charter School with a Community Recognition event in April, 2008.The event paid tribute to the many local businesses and community-based organizations over the years that have welcomed our students through our community service, employment, and Internship programs. We offered particular acknowledgment to our key sponsors, including the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. Four alumni spoke eloquently and movingly about the role that ACE has played in their lives.

The Rhode Island Board of Regents, the chief policy-setting body overseeing elementary and secondary education in Rhode Island, voted to renew Academy for Career Exploration's charter for another five years. As the first charter school to begin operations in 1997, ACE has become the first school to be re-chartered twice. The Board of Regents noted the school’s success in providing a quality education to Providence students in extending the charter.

Last year ACE was one of only two high schools in the Providence school district to earn provisional approval for RIDE High School reform. To accomplish this we adopted new graduation requirements that increase the number of credits students need to earn in order to graduate and added other performance-based requirements designed to allow students opportunities to demonstrate not simply what they know but also what they are able to do.
